Chica Bica
Today is the first day of the rest of my life. I had a recent health scare that has made me rethink everything in my life, and I just can’t sit back and be calm about it. I need to get at ‘em and kick ass. So with some very thorough planning and thought, I have come up with a game plan, and am going to lay it all out on the line for you to see here.
- Purchase all healthy foods that I already have recipes lined up for. Hope like hell that I don’t screw up on cooking new things, and I hope they are edible. No fast food, and desserts a rarity but not excluded.
- Quit Smoking with my husband. Last time it wasn’t with my husband, and I felt horrible about it, but it is the first big ting we are doing as a couple besides having children. This is going to work, and we are in it together.
- Start an exercise regimen, and if that doesn’t work, than I will join a gym. Likely the YMCA as it is the most affordable. I’m going to look for a partner in crime for when I don’t have hubby there with me. Of course that partner in crime will be me, it has to be. The only true motivation I possess is inside of me.
So really that is all I have so far. I have succeeded at everything I have set out to do this year, besides losing weight and quitting smoking. With only 4 months left in this year, I best get the ball rolling or I will not have one of the best years of my life.
Wish me luck, and forgive me if I vent all my frustrations on this blog.

Although, I am one of the first people to notice beautiful flowers growing amidst a lushly landscaped lawn that has been perfectly manicured, I am taking note now as to how much of these “pretty” flowers tax our environment. Especially when they are non-native flowers. Native plants and landscape grow in your area naturally. They have evolved to adapt to the conditions of climate, soil, rainfall and other species of the area.
There are many benefits of growing native plants. They are more likely to thrive under the local conditions while being less likely to invade new areas. Native plants are well adapted to local environmental conditions, maintain or improve soil fertility, reduce erosion, and often require less fertilizer and pesticides than many “alien” plants and landscape. These characteristics save time and money and reduce the amount of harmful run-off threatening the aquatic resources of our streams and oceans.
Native plants provide familiar sources of food and shelter for wildlife. As natural habitats are replaced by modern development, the use of native plants in landscaping can provide essential shelter for displaced wildlife. Poor babies need someplace to call home and since we are knocking down their homes, it is only fair that they get to live near ours. Watching the critters is a great way to reduce stress anyway.
Native landscape requires less care than trucking in a boatload of exotic plants from South America. Usually natives can grow without much extra watering and they thrive in normal climate conditions. You also don’t have to deal with exotic pests that come along with many exotic plants. Less stress on you makes the world a happier place.
